NEW: The Carnaby in Queen West

Kaive Wong went to the VIP launch of Streetcar Developments’ the Carnaby, located in the hip neighbourhood of Queen West back in 2012. This is the third building for the project by Streetcar Developments. One of the great selling features for this project is that the developer has already signed an agreement with Metro supermarket to occupy the ground floor of the building. You can’t imagine the incredible convenience that having a 24 hour supermarket at your doorstep will provide. That said, when you do want to go out for a meal, there are countless restaurants, cool cafés, and laid-back lounges for you to embrace the Queen West lifestyle. Building Features and Amenities

“The Carnaby, a 20-storey residence with approximately 207 lofts, is the new bookend to Toronto’s famous Art & Design District in Queen West. Anchored by an elegant charcoal podium, punched with large double height windows, the tower will read as two distinct yet connected volumes. The southern portion is wrapped in textured precast concreate, detailed with visual lines which also form the balconies. Rising out of the podium, a natural outdoor terrace is created, elevated above the surrounding streets. The northern tower is a clean and crisp glass volume full of light, which slides past the podium, extending its stronglines down into the transparent and open lobby.

The lobby will be an extension of the northern tower’s glass volume. Vibrant and dynamic, the most exciting elements of the lobby are the illuminating cantilevered wall planes. Light and minimal, the clean finishes of the interior create a polished art gallery experience, showcasing the free-standing concierge desk and benches as art installations within that gallery. The modular cube formations of these custom pieces reference the geometrically inspired pop-art prints and fashions of the time when Carnaby Street’s ’60s influence was at its peak.

The building also features energy efficient windows with individually controlled heating and air conditioning with energy efficient digital thermostats in each suite. Also featured is a cutting-edge fitness facility, indoor party and media room and an outdoor terrace. Occupancy is currently slated for November 2014.”
